Best practices & tips
A short field guide for using IndyKnow from Claude Desktop — how to phrase prompts, what the local tools do, common errors. Especially handy if you're new to Claude.
Install (individual)
For anyone on Claude Pro or Max, or any Team-plan member whose admin hasn't pushed IndyKnow yet.
- Download
indyknow.mcpbabove. - Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Extensions.
- Drag
indyknow.mcpbonto the Extensions window. - Fill in Environment Id with your IndySoft env id (find it in
app.indysoft.com). Leave other fields at their defaults — they already point at production. - Open a new chat. The first tool call triggers Keycloak sign-in (opens your browser).
Deploy to your team (admin)
Owners on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan can upload IndyKnow once and let every member install it from inside Claude — no per-user download from this page.
- Download
indyknow.mcpbabove. - In Claude Desktop, click your initials (bottom left) → Organization settings → Connectors → Desktop.
- Click Upload extension and select
indyknow.mcpb. It becomes available org-wide; the upload is scoped to your organization (not public). - Each member opens Settings → Extensions, clicks Install on IndyKnow, and enters their Environment Id.
- Future versions: re-upload the new
.mcpbkeeping the samenameinmanifest.json— members get an in-app update prompt.
Optional lockdown: on the same Connectors → Desktop screen, enable the Desktop extension allowlist to block every public extension by default and whitelist only the ones your team needs.
